It's been another long day. Not a lot has happened - it's amazing how busy things can get.
Garren continues to open his eyes, sometimes for up to 10 minutes at a time. He still is not able to move anything else. He can control his eyelids, that's it for now. At one point as we were talking to him, I asked him to blink, to close and open his eyes. He did. Very slowly, yet deliberately, Garren responded to my request to blink. He can't do it everytime, but he did it a couple of times today. Another baby step.

Nancy and I went down to the 4th floor to tour the rehab facility. They have a great setup down there, with some amazing people working down there. When we went in, the nurse asked us for our son's name. When we said Garren Janes, she said "Why do I recognize that name?" Turns out she had heard about Garren from a friend who happens to be one of our neighbors.

Tomorrow morning (Friday) Garren goes to surgery at 7:30am to get his tracheostomy. Everyone here says that this will be a huge step forward for Garren. The next step will be to move Garren to rehab early next week. Right now we have to wait for a bed to open up down there.

Thanks for your continued prayers.

And continued prayers you shall have...we'll pray for a peaceful night and for Garren's procedure tomorrow. We're so incredibly pleased at the continued good news and the progress he's taking with these baby steps. A long way to go, but a long way from where you've been! Many prayers and blessings...for Garren and for all of you! You must be exhausted, but thank you for the update. In for the long haul, In His love, The Sisk Family

Pastor Janes,
I am a friend of Greg and Mia Carr, and got to know and love them when they were worship ministers here in South Florida. My wife had been reading Mia's FB page comments, when she asked me who Garren was. I told her I didn't know. but would find out.
I just finished reading all your blogs, and I now feel that I have known Garren forever. What a generous gift of time and talent you are offering in keeping people informed and "in the room" without cluttering up an already small space.
Pastor Janes, it always seems odd to be offering uplifting prayers and wishes for the Pastor and his family. It's like telling the plumber's son how to fix a faucet. You just tend to assume that the right person for the job is already there.
But, I know that the right person is already there, and has been from day 1. Jesus has been guiding your day to day trials, has also guided the medical personnel as they "work on" Garren, and has given you the hopes of thousands upon thousands of friends and strangers alike that are praying for Garren and yourself, Nancy, Kelsey and Kara.
I wish that I had seen this one day earlier, because this morning was my Men's breakfast club, and tonight was our Men's Study group. No prolem, I will just email them and the prayers will flow from the Sunshine state to your Sunshine Boy.
I look forward to someday having him give his rebirthing testimony to all churches that will have him.

God Bless You,
Gary Alvord

Good morning...upon reading last night's post, I think "wow" rehab next week...amazing, and then all the glory goes to God...in two short weeks (compared to 2 long months) your son has been from "not sure if he is going to survive" to the possibility of rehab next week!!! That is such a joy! I know you are tired...still praying for all of you..that as you wait on God for the healing, you can find rest in Him...we love you...praying...Love, Sandy & Russ

Look what the Lord has done! My goodness, looking back on the first day this all happened to Garren, I remember saying to Ritchie..this is bad....very bad. We immediately shifted into payer mode. Serious& faithful prayer mode. I know it seems like forever that Garren has been there, but in long term view....GOD HAS BEEN AMAZINGLY GOOD!! Just a few more days & rehab is on!! You know how we've sat and chatted about some of the children in the PICU that have been there for months, no close family to help and the list goes on. It's just incredible to think of how quickly God has moved through this tragedy and how much local & worldwide support Garren, you, Nancy,Kara& Kelsey have been blessed to be surrounded with.
I also think how blessed you guys are to have had an advantage that some parents don't have the privilege of being able to claim when their children are admitted from minute one....and that would be knowing that God is in control, he has a plan...no need to panic and no need to question if there is a God when their children are fighting for their lives.
I love the story about you guys giving you babies back to God before they had even been placed in your arms.
Man, aren't true believers just down right blessed when faced with tragedy& tests of faith?
Gives me chills to really reflect on that.

We pray that Garren's surgery has gone well today. We've been praying...won't stop...we're with you guys in this...all the way!

Love you all,
Donna, Ritchie, Racheal, Katherine, Luke, Madelyn& Brady
