Overnight Garren developed adema (fluid on the lungs). Adema is common in mountain climbers. It occurs when the lungs are not getting enough oxygen.

Also, Garren's brain experienced increased swelling. This was expected, as 48-72 hours from the time of trauma is when the brain is at the greatest risk of swelling. They want his pressure to be under 20, it spiked to 34. At this point it is back to 10 - that's very good.

So the pressure on the brain is the main concern right now. The doctor explained that right now, the area that was affected is located in the back, near the base of the brain. That is where the swelling is occurring. The swelling presses against the pituitary gland and the brain stem, which is where the part of the brain that controls all of the reflexes is. Our prayer and hope right now is that as the swelling goes down, the pressure will ease, and his normal functions will return. If there is no permanent damage, then there is a chance that things will return to normal.

As I said last night, this is a marathon. It's a long road ahead of us. Thank you for you continued prayers and support.

Nancy is sleeping in the room with Garren. She has gotten at least 5 hours of sleep each of the last three nights. I have taken Kara home each night to shower and sleep. Kelsey is at school today. We want to keep things as normal as possible for her.

Geoffrey and Nancy, my prayers continue for you and Garren. I was reminded this morning from Isaiah 40: 10 that we are not to be afraid or discouraged because "I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand". Thank you Lord for holding Garren with your victorious right hand.

Praying continuously for Garren and your family. Privileged to be awakened during these night to come to the throne and petition the Lord on your behalf. I have been where you are, experienced your desert. One thing I know for sure, our Lord and almighty God will sustain Garren, sustain you and your family, and bring comfort and healing according to His will in Christ Jesus. Rest in His love and peace and that of your brothers and sisters in Him.

Thank you for the updates...I was reminded of Proverbs 18:14, A man's spirit sustains him in sickness, but a crushed spirit, who can bear? Pastor Rob is right, this is nothing any parent ever wants to face. The blessing for those of us who believe is knowing that through any of these trials and tribulations, it's nothing we have to face alone. Faith sustained us when we faced a similar situation and it brought us a strength that we never knew possible. With that, we were able to face each new day of uncertainty. We pray that you and your family continue to find that strength every minute of the day. Garren sounds absolutely amazing! His spirit is sustaining him, and though he may not respond at the moment, I believe with all my heart he's feeding on the love around him. God Bless each of you.

Our family is continuing to pray for Garren's complete healing along with strength, wisdom and peace for you, Nancy and your girls. Dean and I have been where you are and experienced this type of marathon. We will not cease praying.

Thank you for the update. Both Jeanie and Suzanne were in tears as I updated them this morning. They truly care for Garren. We continue to lift Garren up before the Lord asking Jesus to completely heal Garren.

As I was praying this morning, I was reminded of the depth of God's love for Garren and for you and your precious family. Nancy gave me this verse printed in a frame two years ago. I keep it at my desk. It is one of my favorite verses... and this is one of the prayers I am praying for your family as I continue to pray for Garren's complete healing:

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21

When we first heard about what had happened, we were speechless. Searching for understanding, we opened the Word and fell to our knees. What we can say is that after spending that precious time with the Lord, reading posts and seeing updates about Garren, that God is being glorified in all things - especially through your unshakeable faith during this difficult time. What a profound testimony! We commit to be praying everyday for Garren - that God will wrap him up in His protection and love. We pray for you, Nancy, Kara and Kelsey; for mercy and comfort to be with you in the days ahead. We pray for all those hands who are taking care of Garren; and that they too, may walk away with a lasting impression of God's miraculous presence and love.
