Tuesday March 1, 4:00pm

I was just sitting down to share some of Garren's baby steps with you. As I was trying to figure out how to start, I looked over and saw Garren moving the fingers on his left hand. I went over and took his hand in mine, and he closed his hand around mine. It was a weak squeeze, but it felt good.

Yesterday morning I was talking to Garren and he moved his head. Not a lot, but enough to see that he was trying to lift his head to the side.

We've been in rehab for a week now. The therapies are going well with Garren. It's a lot to take in, a lot to learn.

Nancy and I received an email today with a great story. In the email they let us know that their 6 year old daughter had prayed to receive Christ, due in part to what Garren is going through. So great to hear things like that!

I was immersed back into reality this morning. I had to take Kelsey to the doctor (she has an ear infection, blech...) and then had to pick up a prescription for her. Then I went to work. It was good to be back in staff meetings. Somebody asked me how it was, being back. I said it felt like coming out of a cave - dark, warm, comfortable - and being overwhelmed by the brightness, the busyness and the noise. It was great to be back.

Many of you have asked, "What can we do to help?" We really want to take you up on your offers, and plan to. Right now we are stil trying to figure out what our long term needs are going to be. I promise, as soon as we have a need, we will let you know. In the mean time, thank you for continuing to pray.

One other thing - when you post a comment, Nancy and I would love to know who you are. If you don't mind, just sign your name to your post. It means a lot knowing who you are!

We continue to pray for Garren faithfully. It's interesting to hear our girls pray for him, because most often they pray "Lord, Thank you for Garren." I know that is exactly how you feel as well. We are so excited to hear how he is moving forward and God is continuing to work in his and so many other's lives. We love you all!

How wonderful to feel the touch of someone's hand gripped around yours...especially when it's your son & you've been waiting for it for so long. I'm sure your heart rate had to be elevated for a moment, even if it was weak. Another baby step....another day given to Garren by God, what a blessing. You know we are here for you guys..we'll be here to walk along side you all during this trial...just let us know when you need us& what we can do@ that time.

Love you all,
Ritchie, Donna, Racheal, Katherine, Luke, Madelyn& Brady

How awesome to have that response, holding his hand and feeling him squeeze it! Praise God for these continued signs of his progress. We continue to pray and lift Garren up to our Father in heaven. He is answering our prayers, his hand is wrapping around our hearts and we feel his comfort, the same way Garren felt yours. To know you are there must give him great peace as he continues to recover! Love you guys very much! The Harveys

I look forward to reading your blog every day and there is not a day that goes by no matter where I am that I don't think of Garren and pray. My daughter Madison has known Garren for several years. Sending blessings your way and continuing to pray.

Sincerely,
Dawn Vandewoude-Carlson

Another day has ended again...but, with the ending of one day, there is always the hope of a new day...so it is with Garren...always the hope of more baby steps, more toddler steps, more walking steps, more skipping steps, more running steps, more leaping steps, and more praises to our God...I am not very good with words, but just want you all to know that you are loved, and that we are praying for Garren and you...that's all...please be encouraged...I know this is hard...ok? Love, Sandy & Russ

We have learned more fully than ever what it means to 'pray without ceasing'. And so we continue...for Garren to grow stronger and for you and Nancy to remain strong.

We are praying for Garren. Jacob had classes with Garren last year and he was sad when Garren moved to Piedmont. We are thankful for your blog so we can keep up with Garren's progress. We will continue to pray for Garren and all of you during this time.

Just wanted to let you know that you all are constantly in my thoughts and prayers! I know you are trying to be there for the girls and Garren all at the same time. I know God will give you strength to do so! So happy for the "baby" steps Garren is showing. Just hang in there! Everyone is behind you for the duration!
