Garren is cracking us up! He is so positive, and so funny! Yesterday I brought home a little squirt gun (I won it at our staff outing - my team rocked the scavenger hunt!) I didn't know if Garren would be able to squeeze the little trigger, but I tried anyway. I filled it with water and gave it to him. He immediately started squirting us. He especially enjoyed squirting Kara and Kelsey!
I needed to go to Best Buy, so I asked Garren if he wanted to go. He said sure. So we loaded up the family and headed out. After Best Buy, Kara needed to go to Target, so we headed there next. As we were walking through the store, Garren started pointing the way, telling us where to turn. He eventually led us to the freezer case. His favorite treat from Target are Dibs (little bite sized chocolate covered ice-cream bits). We all stood and had a great laugh together. All Garren can think about is eating real food. Tonight a commercial for Longhorn came on TV, and Garren said "Mmmmmmmm."
When we left the hospital, we left with lots of unanswered questions. The more we deal with the "pros" the more we realize - they are not used to dealing with people who get well, or at least who progress as quickly as Garren does. His trach has always been something that Nancy and I knew would be temporary. But we haven't been able to get any direction on how or when it would come out. Even today in conversation with the speech therapist, we hear talk as though it could be permanent. (Of course, we know it's not, it's just that we can't seem to get everyone else to understand this with us). So by the hand of God, we were able to get an appointment squeezed in tomorrow with the pulmonologist (lung doctor). After having heard how much Garren has progressed since he left the hospital, he wants to see Garren and start working on a plan for removing the trach.
The big prayer right now is that we will finally get some answers, and that Garren's trach will be removed soon. Garren told me today that he can't wait to get rid of it.

Glad to hear that he soaked you guys!! Hope the appointment at the pulmonologist goes well tomorrow...we'll say a prayer tonight.

You can request the trach be removed. It is a simple procedure. We had to request it and push for it for our son and it was removed. We did the same thing for his g-tube. He was eating hamburgers while the speech therapist was only giving him soft pudding in the hospital. We finally had to break it to her and she put Jonathan on a regular diet. As difficult as it might seem, you will begin to know more about your son than they do and you will need to take the lead and direct what happens. I am sure the Lord will lead you and guide you.
I will share the prayer request for the pulmonologist and for the ability for Garren to eat soon. The water gun is cool but work his muscles! Get him a supper soaker ! Wow,just looked 11:24 PM.Time to get praying then to bed. Have a good night !

as we pray over our meals, we ask th Lord that Garren will be able to eat again soon!!! He has a lot of catching up to do!!! Push hard for him with the doc's...hope they schedule it TODAY!!!

Soaking his sisters with a water gun-- sounds like things are back to normal with the Janes! Praying for the trach removal!
Praise God!! Vicky is right. You (and Garren) know better than anyone what he needs and what his body is "saying". I haven't progressed nearly as quickly as Garren but the drs. said I wouldn't get better after the first year but I am STILL improving!

Wow!!! Our God is so amazing...praying for the trach to come out...what a bunch of food you will have to purchase when it comes out!! Keep working, Garren, we are so proud of you....love & prayers, Sandy & Russ

So thankful of hearing about God's work in Garren!! Praise the Lord! I remember when I had my stroke how much I wanted to prove I could eat. I pray for today to go smooth. God is driving and in control! Amen!!

First, I am sad to say that I have not been on your blog for a couple of weeks. SHAME ON ME!!!
Second, WOW. God is SOOOOOO good. I cannot believe how much your son has improved. I think of you and pray for you often.
The girls ask about Garren all the time. Sister Sue if praying for him often too.
Just want all of you to know that us in NV still love you SO much!!
We miss you guys. Hope your next trip out, we can get together, and you can meet the newest addition to our family: Shine Annaliese Doppe, Sara & Joe's baby girl.
