I got to the hospital around 10am. I would have been here sooner, but I had stopped to help a poor lady change a flat on her car. It never ceases to amaze me how many people will pass by a stranded person and never stop to help. It's sad, really.
But anyway - Garren met with the speech therapist first. She spent some time evaluating him. Next we met the occupational therapist. She helped us sit Garren up in bed. That is the most upright Garren has been in 20 days. They wanted to see how his blood pressure would respond. Garren did fine. Her job is to help Garren relearn how to do things he needs to do to take care of himself.
Then we met the school teacher. Her job is to coordinate with Garren's school, and do everything we can to help him keep up with his schooling, and with the reentry process when Garren is ready to return to school.
After lunch we met with the physical therapist. Her job is to help get Garren mobile. She will be working with him as he begins to sit up, stand up, and walk. Today we got Garren up out of bed and into a chair so he could sit up for a while.
The goal is to get Garren's muscles moving. The hope is that through the process of these different forms of therapy, the brain will be stimulated, and start waking up even more.
We've also met with several other medical staff throughout the day. It's been a long day of learning a ton of new things.
We continue to lift Garren up to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, praying for complete healing and restoration.

I am not believing what I'm reading - - - such huge steps compared to not so long ago. Thank you for faithfully allowing us to share in Garren's miraculous progress. Giving God all the glory with you and thanking him for someone with such a sacrificial heart.
Way to go Geoffrey with helping the lady with a flat! I have been there before having what seemed like hundreds pass by me! The little old man who changed my tire made sure I knew how to change it myself if that ever happened again! Praise God for people like you willing to stop and help others in need. And what great news about Garren sitting up and the process starting with all the therapies! Our family continues to pray for God's will to be done in Garren's life and for complete healing. We also continue to lift you and Nancy and the girls up to God asking for peace, strength, patience and rest!

Wthdrawals is a good way to put it. I have checked many times today. Thanks for taking a break to give us an update. It's great news that things have changed from "watching the paint dry". I"m sure that was a welcome change of pace for you and Nancy. Therapy for Garren has began, Praise God! Praise God!! We will continue to lift you all up for understanding and courage for the next journey has begun. As always, we're praying for Garren's complete recovery. We Love and miss you all.
whew!!! what a day for you all!! We wake up praying, pray throughout the day and end our day with special prayers for Garren, his sweet sisters and his wonderful parents! (all that is going on and you stop to change a flat tire! Bless you!) I hope you get lots of sleep tonight and are ready for another great day Thurs! I am so proud of Garren! He is a strong young man and we are praying without ceasing!

Man oh man!! We've been sweating not hearing from you guys about Garren all day!! The kids were checking it & started screaming...."It's been updated!! Yay!" How sweet of you to stop& help the lady with the flat tire! We are just in awe of what we are reading about Garren's day. I'm sure it made your eyes tear up a little to be able to see him sit up in a chair after seeing him lay in that bed for soooo....long. Praise God!! We hope it all went well, but we know you're all exhausted after such a busy day. We pray for strength for you all in the days to come.

Garren and family,
Good afternoon, my name is Donna Brewer and my daughter Kassidy Brewer had a ruptured AVM back in August 2008. She was 13 years old. She was in a coma for approximately 5 months. (she too was in a coma for her 14th birthday). She was on a ventilator for 39 days, and was not expected to live. She is truly considered a "Miracle" at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego, CA.
I have recently learned from a church member of yours, Karen about Garren's Ruptured AVM similar to Kassidy's bleed. We are so sorry to hear about Garren. Through all of this you will find strength not only in yourself, but through God's almighty Grace. We, like you had given it all to Christ Jesus and HE renewed our faith, our spirit, our lives forever. You are in the thick of it right now, but through time you will realize something different about yourself through all of this and how it all works for the Glory of God.

This is where her story begins. My husband Kevin used his writings to bring others to Christ and to get his frustrations out. It was also a lifesaver being able to write on a blog without making a 100 phone calls a day to family and friends.
Just for a little hope, Kassidy is back to school (homeschooling through our home church). She just got her drivers permit and just started back at Karate, she is testing for her 2nd degree black belt. She is not walking independantly yet, but is working hard in therapies daily. Please have hope for Garren. Know that God truly has a plan that may be different, but trust me, it will be sweet.
