Setting the Story Straight

There is still quite a bit of confusion about what actually happened to Garren. I'd like to clear that up for everyone.

Garren suffered a bleed from a ruptured Arterial-Venus-Malformation (AVM). The rupture occurred while he was in PE class at Piedmont Middle School. It is important to understand that this was not caused by anything. An AVM is basically a ticking time bomb. Some people go their entire life and never know they have one. You don't usually discover the AVM unless it ruptures, as it did in Garren's case.

Garren was taking his turn, climbing the ladder on the wall of the gym. He reached the next to the last rung at the top, and instead of climbing back down, he let go and dropped to the mat on the floor. He landed on his feet. He did not hit his head on anything (we have security camera video to show this). He walked over to his PE teacher and said "My head hurts." She sat him down in a chair, and called 911.

Some have wondered if the hits he took in football caused this. The answer is no. This injury is no one's fault. It just happens when it happens.

I know there are a lot of stories floating around out there, and we wanted to clear things up.

Thank you for continuing to pray for Garren.

Geoffrey: We want to thank you for keeping us all up to date on Garren's progress. It was especially helpful to learn the whole story this morning. He was taken care of quickly and that was so important. Again, love and prayers surround you and your family. Fondly, Bert and Susan Tandy

We continue to pray for his complete healing!! Our God is faithful to complete it! We continue to pray "By His stripes Garren was healed" past tense, his healing occured when Jesus shed his blood and we just continue to wait until we see the fruit of that healing. He has the healing, we just wait for his body to catch up until we see it! He will be a walking, talking, living, breathing proof that God is still in the healing business. Please rest assured that we will not stop praying... I am sure this church body is in it for the long haul as your family is. Wishing you many blessings today and the days to come! Thanks for the updates as we all watch and pray. We humans are funny sometimes. We have such difficulty with things that don't make sense to us. We really hate it when bad things happen to good people for no obvious reason. I think, in part, it is because we have to face the fact that something bad could just as easily happen to us, even though we are doing everything we know to do to prevent such things. Your wisdom and faith in this situation are a testimony to many. I know that God will use the situation in countless ways for your family and the Body of Christ. Blessings!

I'm doing the only two things I know that I can do - pray and asking everyone else I know to pray, as well. Thank you for the updates and know that you are at the forefront of our thoughts and prayers. - The Atwells

Thanks for the updates. I know this is so difficult for all of you, but thank you for continuing to be an inspiration to all of us. Sometimes, we see people who don't practice what they preach, if that makes sense. They give others advice on what they should do in tough situations, but if they walk in those shoes, everything they believe in just goes out the window. Not so with you Pastor Geoffrey. The unbelievable faith, wisdom, and consideration you've demonstrated in this last week is overwhelming. Please know that with every post, you touch our hearts very deeply.

One of your friends,Ginger, asked me to pray for Garren. I know what it's like to be sitting in a waiting room not knowing what will happen. My brother had an AVM that we discovered his Senior year. I hope you find some comfort in knowing that he is 41 years old today and has a pretty normal life outside of some memory problems. Even though we discovered it then the doctors we visited all said given where it was in his brain it was inoperable. His was about the size of a small orange. So we had to wait on it to blow, and that ended up beinga littlelessthan 1 year later. As soon as he came out of his coma and stabalized he had a 13 hour surgery. It tooksome time to recover but the doctors call him a miracle today. God still works those miracles.I pray for paitence and a peace in knowing that God's plan and timing is perfect. God is in control in even the small things.

I'm praying for Garren's healing.
May God Bless you all.

Janes Family -

My heart goes out to you as time marches on and there is little noticeable progress. This reminds me so much of AJ's time in the NICU. Such an emotionally draining time, and yet we wouldn't trade it for the world.

For your encouragement, AJ just turned 11, is now fully potty-trained, and is doing K-1st grade work in school.

I'm also reminded of something my dad preached on years ago: From Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego telling the King that "we know what our God CAN do. We don't know what He WILL do in this specific situation. Regardless, we will serve Him and obey Him." OK, so that's not a direct quote, but that's the gist of it.

Stay strong. Hold tightly to Him. Praying for strength, perseverance, courage, and a strengthening of your faith.

Love in Him,
Christy Grant

It is great to know the real story. I go to Piedmont, and there are SOOO many different stories going around. Many saying that he hit his head. It is a terrible thing that happened, and we all hope is better soon. My family is praying for you all.
